Perhaps the fate of the cultivation world was sealed the moment Lu Yang decided to join it. This was all thanks to Lu Yang's abilities in artful deception, subverting expectations, triggering miscommunication…and the list goes on.
Along the journey, he meets like-minded and not so like-minded companions who eventually become like-minded, but one thing was for certain—the way is the Lu Yang’s way.
“The stars in the sky are fake.”
As an all-out battle of the era looms around the corner, various factions entwine in a clash for dominance, and newly unearthed information begins to question the history of the universe as they knew it.
What is the truth of the world? How to cultivate and live the Lu Yang way? Follow Lu Yang and the gang as they navigate the complex landscape with their antics and shenanigans, bringing (a hopefully positive) impact to the cultivation world.
~~~
“The power of words!” Man Gu earnestly slammed a bulky dictionary on the opponent's head.
“The power of money!” Meng Jingzhou casually hurled a treasure at the enemy.
“The power of Big Senior Sister!” Lu Yang wittingly summoned the most terrifying force—Big Senior Sister.
“I’ve stressed this time and again—the ethos of the cultivation world was already off-kilter. I am not responsible! Don’t they all say that history is written by the victors? Why are people still accusing me even after I’ve triumphed?” Sword Immortal Lu Yang expressed his ire during a press interview.
It is the first day of the twelfth month of the year—a suitable day for the launch of this novel (I hope… :3) I am Rakumon, the translator of Who Let Him Cultivate?! This novel is known for its refreshing humor and imaginative ideas in the Chinese community. If you like a witty protagonist, interesting side characters, a mystery plot in the background, and plenty of comedy, do read on and be a part of Lu Yang’s journey!
I have previously worked on Consort of a Thousand Faces and Transmigration: Of Mysteries And Songs on Volare. It will be my first time translating a novel from this genre, and it definitely doesn’t help that this novel is heavy with jokes, puns, wordplay, memes, poems, cultural references—you name it. Nonetheless, I will try my best to bring them across to all of you, and please also feel free to share your comments!
The translator’s thought section will be where I’ll share interesting stuff regarding mentions in the novel as well as some thoughts of my own. To find out more, you may also check out my Twitter and Instagram accounts! Lastly, I look forward to seeing you on Discord :D
It’s hard to give a proper review since there’s only 12 chapters so far, but here goes.
The translation quality is really good.
The title and description sets this up to be a comedy cultivation novel, and so far it delivers. It does not seem to take itself all that seriously, the world-building is quite cliché and the characters strike me as rather two dimensional but it is after all very early days. Nontheless the pacing is nice, the story quite enjoyable and it has already given me a few good laughs. As such I am looking forwards to what this novel has in store, hoping it will maintain the good humour and not deteriorate into the usual cliché plots, so I would,for now and based on the 12 chapters that are out, recommend giving this novel a chance.
Edit: 30 chapters now. Humour is still on point. I still recommend this novel!
This is a very entertaining comedy, I’ve read quite a bit of it ahead of what is on Wuxiaworld, so will avoid spoilers and just say it has many degrees of shameless one-uppance with quite a funny cast of endearing characters and situations.
It doesn’t fall into the “face slapping” trend, as no one has any face and is utterly shameless as the comedic baseline. As a cultivation story it is also amusing in how it makes fun of the various tropes in a clever manner.
I give this a strong recommendation and encourage readers to give it a try.
Review After Reading 30 Chapters
This book is very good, and from what I have read so far, if you like comedy, you will definitely like it. The MC seems intelligent and thinks differently from most MCs; this contributes to the book's comedy, which itself is different from most comedy books. He is not the typical MC who is looked down upon and needs to rise from untalented to the top, but from what we have seen, he is not the most talented person either. Up to chapter 30, there hasn't been much (if any) action, but it's still considered part of the introductory chapters, so it is reasonable. Even then, you won't get bored. I would consider this book a hidden gem
The translation is very good, and the translator seems like a friendly person who tries to communicate with the readers, and I personally like that.
I recommend giving it a try and reading a couple of chapters before making a decision. The chapters are not that long, like most Chinese cultivation books, so you can read a good amount of them and see whether you like it or not
