I looked at her standing outside the door. The world fell silent and the space around us seemed to contract and expand on its own. My body refused to move and I wondered if I was dreaming. This couldn’t be real. I closed my eyes hoping she wouldn’t disappear and prayed that I wouldn’t wake up in bed. Then I opened my eyes again.

She stood in the same spot. I really couldn’t think. The huge shock fried all my brain cells, so I remained frozen and just stared at her.

Suddenly, I got cold feet. What if she just came for my pills like the other visitors? She should’ve forgotten about me, so did I have to treat her like a stranger?

“I told you before, didn’t I?”

Her voice flowed into my ears.

“I would never forget.”

Her eyes shone like jewels as she cried. I had never seen her cry before.

“I told you I wouldn’t forget.”

She sobbed and I didn’t know what to do. Tears also flowed down my cheeks. Seeing her cry shocked me just as much as her arrival.
