The full moon still shone in the early morning. A baby wrapped in a quilt sat on the steps of a temple and the faint moonlight lit his face. He didn’t cry and only stared at his mother.

Soon, the mother began to cry. She turned around as the baby watched her reluctantly walk away.

A smile emerged on the innocent baby’s face. The mother began to run after hearing the baby’s laughter and her tears scattered in the wind.

The temple doors opened as the sun rose. An old nun paused in front of the baby and picked him up with a sigh. The baby opened his eyes, which reflected the nun’s wrinkled face. She gently smiled and stroked his quilt to congratulate his birth.

The temple took in the baby and named him Eren.

Eren spent much of his childhood in the temple. It became his home, place of worship, playground, and school. The nuns taught him many things.

However, he never liked studying. Instead, he preferred to chop wood. Eren wanted to learn the sword and become a knight rather than take history lessons. The nuns couldn’t provide him with such an education because they lived in the rural countryside...
