An evil protagonist, but with complexity and depth of a real person. There isn't any self-righteousness here, and at times it is difficult to read. This guy can't stop being a sex fiend, by virtue of fusing with a debased Young Master with a demonic bloodline.
I think the way that the main character interacts with others in the story is probably the most interesting part for me, it is entertaining and new to explore an evil-aligned protagonist who doesn't fall into an edgy trope or think like an insane megalomaniac. Another unique thing about the story so far is in terms of the cultivation, due to the incompatibility and difficulty of cultivating the techniques of a pheonix in a human body; it is definitely a slow burn - 688 chapters in and they are still in the same general region that the story began in. I think this is a strength that makes the novel seem more real - in most xuanhuan/xianxia, they are always progressing constantly to a higher region, continent or world surface which cheapens the story in my experience when its all thrown out of the window at the next step and discarded. Here the journey feels impactful and small gains are felt more, and it is much more organic and believable as a plotline.
The translator ImmortalEmperorBao, who also translates Emperor's Domination, does a stellar job with the characters and prose. The environments, developments and descriptions are consistently interesting and entertaining.
That being said, a fair warning to all potential readers: to say this guy doesn't care to know the meaning of consent is putting it extremely lightly, and it is very graphic and sometimes gratuitously violent. If that is distressing to you, don't read this novel.
