Charlotte furrowed her brows at Vertus’s malicious sarcasm.

Charlotte’s nonchalant remark left Vertus rather dumbfounded.

“Do you really think Ellen would do that?”

“She might not, but Reinhart would definitely be disillusioned with me, and I would hate that more.”

Charlotte’s candid admission that she believed incurring Reinhart’s disdain was more serious than the possibility of death at the hands of a jealous Ellen left Vertus speechless.
